Hiking and Mountain Biking in Haenertsburg & Magoebaskloof
The area is surrounded by pristine forests, dams and waterfalls so comes as no surprise that Hiking and Mountain biking in Haenertsburg & Magoebaskloof are top activities. Many of the trails pass through private land, so it is very important to please follow the “Leave No Trace” rule and keep these trails beautiful. Here are a list of popular trails:
Hiking Trails
- Woodbush Eco Camping Trails – A 5-10km area where you can go for a walk, run, hike or mountain bike across privately owned land (exclusive to Woodbush Eco Camping guests).
- The Louis Changuion Trail, Haenertsburg – A 10km trail through the endangered Woodbush Granite grasslands of Haenertsburg. This is a Nature Reserve and indigenous forest and maps are available in the village at Stella’s Farm Deli.
- Debengeni Waterfall – 20km from Haenertsburg and is ideal for short walks, picnics & swimming (for safety, please make note of specific swimming areas).
- Magoebaskloof Hiking Trails – A 40.6km long trail, near to Tzaneen. Considered a challenging trail it will be moderate for regular hikers but difficult for new hikers. Be cautious if it has been raining as some of the low level bridges can be flooded.
- Swartbos Trail, Magoebaskloof – Starts at the Magoebaskloof Hotel to Magoebaskloof gorge indigenous forests. Maps available at the Hotel or at Stella’s Farm Deli.
Mountain Biking Trails
- Woodbush Eco Camping Trails – A 5-10km area where you can mountain bike across privately owned land (exclusive to Woodbush Eco Camping guests). Ask for a route map at reception.
- Through the Magoebaskloof area – routes vary from easy family routes to adventure Mtb tracks for the more experienced riders. Contact Magoebaskloof Adventures for route maps and rates.
- Waterwheel Country Retreat hires out bikes so you can explore their property. Contact them for details.
